Adventure of the week...
Tried to replace a dying Samsung Galaxy S9 with a new S21. I'm a buy-it-outright phone user so was buying it unlocked from Samsung. After the ship date moved to mid September, then again to early October I, gulp, decided to go to the dark side and get an iPhone 12 Pro. Got that sucker the next day.
I'm not completely unfamiliar with iOS but *is* different.
Next couple of days will be interesting as I try to get back into a groove.
All my kids are happy for me. πŸ˜‰

@mcfate We'll see. I know a ton about Android devices. I helped launch the first GooglePay in 2014 when ApplePay was still in dev. My team split when ApplePay came around because of the Chinese Firewalls required by Apple. As you might imagine, those walls have holes, but for the most part I concentrated on Google Pay and then Samsung Pay. (and the plethra iterations of GooglePay that have since followed). I'm not on that team any more so it's not necessary to be able to use what I build.

@Urbankidx4

Well, Google is a bunch of straight-up thieves who put another company out of business to steal a core software component from them for use in Android.

@mcfate In no way would I try to argue with you about that. I've seen it myself as well. But I've also been in meetings with the fruit guys. They are ruthless too.

@Urbankidx4

I don't recall them putting literally hundreds of people out of work via straight-up crimes, though.

@mcfate I'm afraid they're just better at keeping it quiet. Their NDA's and very strict enforcement of siloed product development means things happen internally and externally that are hard to tie together.

@Urbankidx4

I worked at Apple for a decade. Do you know of something they're hiding, or do you simply wish they were just as bad as Google?

@mcfate Without getting too deep I can only say that I think they are two creatures cut from the same cloth in the dealings I had with them both. Our partnerships with both continue to thrive nonetheless.
Sounds like you had a pretty good experience working at Apple, and that G! showed itself to have serious shortcomings. Sorry to hear that.

@Urbankidx4

But I haven't got even a single clue why you'd think such a thing. You offer me nothing but the fact that you DO think that as support.

@mcfate And I apologize. I won't be able to do that. It's totally fair for you to want more details. I would too. I should not have started down that road.

@Urbankidx4
I'm Android for personal iPhone for work and I still think Android is the better phone. For me its the keyboard. Using secure passwords, Android has the alternate button on each key where Apple I'm constantly swapping keyboard because of numbers and specials for every other character

@Beerdini So true. I've already started to feel that challenge as well.

@Urbankidx4 we have been all Mac/I-products for a decade. An investment but problem and seem to last forever….we get new devices when something dies or apple stops servicing them.

Hope you have a great transition!

@Thumprhare Thanks. My lovely bride is the last Android holdout of our family of 6. She chokes at the cost. But now high-end devices from both major companies are about the same. She struggles to know if the kids actually get her messages so I see her not too far behind me in making the move.
I tried to explain the wonderful benefits of Apple deciding to break their promises and creating encryption back doors but she didn't seem to appreciate that. πŸ˜‚
