Taking advantage of a break in the weather Ziggy decided to take me for a walk around the park.

That looks like the duck pond/Commonwealth Lake park not far from our house in Cedar Hills, OR. I love that place!

@Teej_Muk you are correct. The ducks and geese were out in full force today. Plenty of distractions to help with Zigs training.

We've lived in this neighborhood for 50 years now. Our go-to place to hang out has always been what we call The Lake. I've seen several different types of birds/mammals down there, especially after the beavers moved in and created so many dams/wetlands. The parks&rec stocks the lake several times each spring. First time I saw an osprey hover and dive for fish was there. Exciting! Lots of birders there year-round, too. Ever-changing environment at this Lake. Hidden treasure land. 🌞

What is Ziggy training for? Personal or service dog or ??

@Teej_Muk same here. Lived in the neighborhood for 28 years. My kids grew up at the “Duck Pond”. That trail along Lanewood was “The Secret Passage” Ziggy just spent a month at a board and train. The hope was a service dog but don’t think he’s going to pass. We will be flying him with us down to Panama where we will be for about a year. Think he’s flying cargo.

Ah, yes. Down by Foothill Park. My babysitter called that area Terebithia when she was little & played there a lot. She grew up on Parkway, one block from the Dellwood entrance. When I was little, folks even took their inflatable rafts onto the lake. My folks went ice skating there in winter 1972. Both my brother & I played soccer there. The expanded wetlands closed the soccer field a few years ago, tho. A game hazard there was the ball ending up in the drink! 😝 so many memories

@Teej_Muk THPRD opened up a new playground alongside the soccer fields. Built a walkway over the swampy ditch. Ziggy and I have walked up and down every street in that neighborhood. I lived up on Hillcroft for about 15 years until moving to the other side of Butner to get a bigger house. That park and the school district were the main reasons of only moving less that a mile.

My parents bought this house in 1972 for $23k. One level, 3br/1.5 bath, 1300 Sq ft. Similar houses sell for $550k nowadays. The nearby fields we played in as kids are houses now. 😥 I went to Cedar Park Jr Hi and Sunset HS. My neighborhood now goes to Beaverton HS, with boundary changes. Our biggest rivals! 🫨 Where Nike World Campus is was wetlands and fields. Beaverton Mall is now Cedar Hills Crossing. I remember the original Star Wars played for a year at Westgate Theater! *sigh*

@Teej_Muk all my kids took the Ridgewood, Cedar Park and Sunset high school route. Me? Sorry Tigard High 🤣 I remember standing inline for the first Star Wars at Westgate. Coming from Tualatin in the 70’s Beaverton was big time. My current neighborhood did the Beaverton High switch the year after my youngest graduated.

@TwitterExpat
Ah, at least he survived the agonizing traitorous switch! 😛

It was the SW end of the soccer field that got swamped by a beaver dam/wetland along Johnson Creek. The corner flag post is underwater now. We used to walk along that crick and catch crawdads as kids. The culvert under Huntington was dry enough during the summer that we could walk thru it when we were little little. The crick/culvert are full of water now. I graduated from Sunset HS in 1988. Maybe I went to school with your kids?

@Teej_Muk 🤣🤣🤣 I’m not that old. Graduated Tigard 1977

@TwitterExpat
😊 Hard to tell what age folks are sometimes online. So you graduated the year the Blazers won it all! My parents were season ticket holders and saw it all happen in person. That was the most excited I've ever seen my mom that day! 🎉

@Teej_Muk funny story about the Blazers. Our graduation ceremony was at the Civic downtown during the final game. We all had AM radios listening to the game. We went from the graduation and walked in our gowns downtown for the celebrations. Wild day. No worries about the age thing. I play a good grumpy old man on social media. 👨🏻‍🦳

@TwitterExpat
What a fun story! Not many people can tell that one, for sure!
My younger brother and I were at the babysitter in NW Portland. We heard all the cars honking and my parents come in all aglow and excited after the final. I believe we went to Baskin-Robbins for a treat when we got back home to celebrate the Championship. We also went to the Parade downtown that the city threw for the Blazers. That was a fun June that year!
