@TwiHusband That applies to pretty much all religions.
Hyperconservative-"Christianity" (I swear they haven't even read the New Testament & are simply spewing whatever BS they feel like, then just cherry-picking verses if they reference the Bible at all) in the US is a visible example for us, but it's far from the only dangerous religious movement out there, & arguably pretty far from the worst.
I do wish everyone would smarten the hell up & recognize *all* the fairy tales are a load of crap.
@LiberalLibrarian @IrelandTorin Or 3/4's of the Middle-East.
@TwiHusband @LiberalLibrarian I vehemently disagree with China's policies on many things, but I think they are closer to the right idea on the topic of religion than most.
Although they're WAY more heavy-handed about it than I would be. I'm all about using soft power and gently persuading the public in the right direction over the course of decades, rather than trying to force the issue.
People always respond best if you make them feel like it's purely their own, unpressured idea.
@TwiHusband @LiberalLibrarian The last thing you ever want to do is make people feel like something is being forced on them.
Whether it's good or not, they'll fight it tooth & nail on instinct... even if they comply, they'll forever resent it.
Choice may necessarily be no more than an illusion given the dual probabilistic/deterministic nature of our universe, but good leaders maintain that illusion even if costly.
The decisions people question least are generally those they see as their own.
@TwiHusband @LiberalLibrarian Yep. Which in many ways is even worse than India... at least in India for the most part religious "law" has not been made law by the government and officially enforced by the state.
The same cannot be said for most places in the Middle East.
