Tonight, Mom and I told my sister and brother-in-law we plan to move to Northern Spain. Permanently. After a long conversation, they understand why. Finances, politics, climate are all factors. This move is a huge change. We’ve lived in this area since 1977. Selling 99% of all we own is daunting. But Dad dying was a huge change too, and we overcame it. We’ve faced monumental challenges in the past. This one is going to be an adventure. We’re excited to start a new chapter.

@TheRealDelia

Good luck and best wishes, Delia. 👍

BTW — how’s your Spanish? 🤔😏

@InUnfunky I read easily. My listening comprehension is good. I’m working on my conversation and spelling. I speak French and Italian already fairly fluently, so Spanish isn’t hard for me.

My mom spent a summer in Spain when she was young and was a translator/interpreter for my father’s charity eye care work in Central America. Her Spanish is far better than mine. In fact she has used it during our travels throughout Europe, and even helped her communicate in Romania as well. 😊

@TheRealDelia

This is such thrilling news! I am so happy for you. 😀

@TheRealDelia 👏🏾 good luck!

politics drove me from the province my son still lives in and where i'd built quite a career. i was head hunted often. had built equity in my home.

but the politics and climate drove me to move. it's no where near an international move, like yours. but it was so good for my mental health. it was challenging and hard. and still worth it!

i wish you and your mom all the best.

@TheRealDelia Exciting! I went down the rabbit hole looking at different EU and Spanish visas. Which one are you considering?

@SnelsetterFarm Oviedo! It ticks all our wish list boxes. Good hospitals, clean air and water, good infrastructure and transportation, several green spaces, low cost of living, low crime rate, not too big, and the climate projections are great.

@TheRealDelia That looks fantastic. It's easy to forget they have a north coast (tbh the locals probably prefer it that way).

My times in Spain were in the entirely too hot parts - Barcelona and Mallorca

@SnelsetterFarm I can’t deal with the heat. Oviedo looks like it’s similar weather wise with Seattle. I cannot wait.
