Really disappointed in Drew Barrymore’s decision to double down on her horrible choice to scab the union writers on her show. Ordinarily, I wouldn’t add my voice to the din I’m sure she’s overwhelmed by after her second disastrous IG post. I know she’s not going to pay attention to what I have to say, but I wish she would. It’s sad watching her self-inflicted implosion.
@Eponine Yes, it’s wrong because it undermines the strike and tells the studios that writers aren’t worth paying. Shows like hers hire writers for a reason. There are other ways she could pay the staff. If she can’t afford to pay them herself the way other big name celebrities are doing for their talk shows then she could do a fundraiser that she lends her name to to help raise money. She could auction signed items or memorabilia to raise money. There are lots of ways she could go about it -
@Eponine -I took another look at her original statement, and in it, she says “ I want to be there to provide what writers do well, which is a way to bring us together or help us make sense of the human experience.” In other words, she’s going to do their work. That is literally the definition of scabbing.
@TheRealDelia This is a good point about finding other ways to raise money for other workers.
Not arguing in support of her or of going back on air, but I read that some other shows were planning to go back on the air with the hosts ad libbing, too.
@Eponine - that doesn’t undermine the writer’s strike for fair wages and equitable working conditions.
