I'm noticing folks leaving this place or 'taking a break'. Like it's noticeable. I'm not really sure what has been going on here the last few days, it's fragmented and confusing. I don't actually know what I need to do to fix this problem.
You are allowed to have disagreements here and there are tools for you to curate your experience here. What is going wrong this last couple of days?
Help me help us solve the problem. Whatever it is.
@th3j35t3r Some believe that we need more discussion and that we are not welcoming enough for some people.
@sanau That is why I have simply done what I can with tooting more diversity. I know it is not much however I do hope that it can make others feel as they can engage. Also, I am the type to simply do instead of discussion for a long time really so that was my solution. @th3j35t3r
I was reading the original posts written by the BIPOC in question (I'm not tagging them into this on purpose). I was not commenting as I wanted to hear just them.
But it turned into an argument between white people. Some "allies" turned it into drama with each other. I muted those people so I could get back to reading just the original posters.
White people need to sort their shit out, certainly, but taking over the original thread wasn't helpful at all.
@TheNewsOwl @th3j35t3r This. CoSo skews fairly white (and maybe a bit older). Some BIPOC folk started talking about things about our community culture that make them feel unwelcome/need to walk on eggshells to protect white fragility.
I've just been reading (and very busy this week, so I probably missed a lot), but these types of discussions, while necessary, can be exhausting for marginalized folk and sometimes hard for others to really listen to without injecting their opinions.
