Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance which makes the shooting at the bar even more horrific.
For generations, the transgender population has suffered various forms of abuse (and even death) for challenging the views, notions, and stereotypes around βmaleβ and βfemaleβ identity. This holiday is meant to honor, commemorate, and memorialize those who face discrimination and stigma (often on a daily basis) across the nation.

I recognize that things will get worse before they get better, perhaps, but I feel like I'm walking on glass, carrying some really heavy boxes, except those boxes are on fire, and I'm on fire, and it's an entire mess.
The pattern recognition isn't helping.
I yearn for a better future.

This holiday is also meant to advocate for transgender peopleβs rights as well as focus on the persistent struggles they face in their everyday lives, and how others can share their love, support, and hope.
