@Tail we were in the Fairbanks area, Chena, North Pole, Denali.

@knomia figured you were further north, the borealis doesn't really get that bright down where I am. Great shots though. 👍

@Tail it wasn't that bright at first. Most of my pictures were taken with long exposure. The ones with purple, though, were just regular cellphone settings.

The local people were head over heels about the show that night , too!

@knomia they don't happen super often but it's always nice when they do. We usually get a heads up on a weather report if the lights are gonna be out.

@knomia no, sadly, I'm really not. This is not a good place to live. Great to visit though, but living here is fairly dreadful. Some people love it but it's not for me. It looks good from afar.

@Tail oh, that's a bummer! It sucks to not like where you live. That's how I felt when my dad got stationed in Oklahoma from Okinawa. 11 yrs in a place I never liked. As soon as I graduated college, I was out.

I live in Minnesota, we've got the cold, we've got the bugs, but it's flat and boring. I would trade some hours of sunshine for the terrain.

Strange, I live in a cold place but fell in love with another cold place.....and I'm not that find of the cold 🤷🏻‍♀️

@knomia my understanding is the colder it is, the brighter the lights, typically. We do have the best pizza in the country in Anchorage, so there is that. But I was born and raised here. Though I've gotten out a few times I kept screwing up and had to come back. At least the summers are really nice here.

@Tail I'm glad you have the summers. It makes me sad that you phrase it as "getting out" 🥺

My next trip there is going to be the summer of 2022. Then hubby and I feel we will have enough information to retire there, or not.

I really hate mosquitoes (what I hate most about 10,000 lakes) so that will be the deciding factor for me.

@knomia we have what's referred to as a brain drain here. People get degrees and then they leave and don't come back. It's hard to keep professional staff it seems.

And mosquitos are the bane of my existence. I don't kill flies or spiders but mosquitos are on sight.

When you do visit again though, try to go to Moose's Tooth in Anchorage, DELICIOUS food. Or Bear's Tooth if you'd prefer a theater setting. Same company and food.

@Tail oh thank you. I always appreciate recommendations from local people when I get other places!

@knomia it's kind of a big deal. onlyinyourstate.com/alaska/moo

It's really the only thing I'd miss if/when I escape. My favorite pizza is the Santa's Little Helper. 👍
