Last winter a moose came onto my property so I did what any smart person would and decided I'd stick my hand in its mouth. Crosspost.
@Tail my daughter ran her bike into a moose. Moose moved, baby moose and mom followed her to work.
@floryloughead Oh wow. In my experience, moose are mostly chill unless it's a mama with babies, that's an absolute hard no.
@Tail we lived in bear and moose land for a few years and never had a problem. Mama bears, mama moose, no biggie. If they sense danger, one is screwed, if they sense friend, no problem. Daughter used to walk through the forest to class in college, bears were a few feet away, never a problem. When we lived in the Kenai, moose where everywhere. Cows and calves, never a problem.
@floryloughead I'm halfway between Soldotna and Kenai right now, matter of fact.π
@Tail we lived in Soldotna from 2009 to 2013
@floryloughead Ah, I was born and raised in Anchorage, never spent much time in the rurals outside of work purposes, but my mom moved down here in 2013. Tbh I can't stand it here, but she's super sick and stupid so I'm trying to take care of her. Schismatic.
@Tail yes, Soldotna is the boonies and Kenai is not much better, but, Freddieβs/Three bears/Save-U-More are right there. Seward and Homer, not far. Good beer, good pizza, good groceries. Anchorage is 2 hours if Iβm driving, once you hit Girdwood, you are there.
Yes, I would rather be there than in Florida.
Daughter and I used to drive to Anchorage for overnights once a month for shopping and, in winter, for plays. Miss Sagaya market and Korean shops.
@floryloughead Oh yeah, that's one thing Alaska has going for it, food and beer. Moose's Tooth is one of the wonders of the world as far as I'm concerned. I like to bike around but there's not really a lot of places to do that. I can go back and forth up the highway, yay.
I moved to Colorado for college and CO was basically Alaska 2.0, LOVE it there.
@floryloughead I've actually never been to Homer, only been to Seward once. I'll put all these on my to-do list.
Arctic Roadrunner in Anchorage used to be really good but they've kinda let themselves go a little bit.
There's Fast Eddie's nearby too. Definitely got some good eats
