@MLClark I still think my hypothesis is valid that we (humans) are evolving from Homo Sapiens to a higher form. The "deranged" portion of the population will go the way of the Denisovans and Neanderthals.
The way it looked to me the last time humans wiped out the other sort of humans, it was the deranged ones that wiped out the others (like the denisovans and neandertals), not the higher forms, that survived.
I expect the crazy ones to win unless everyone else does better than the neanderthals did in the face of their crazy offshoot relative.

I'd settle for empathy winning out over so-called intelligence *or* brawn at this point.
If we can't change our tribalism, we're doomed. And not because of war - we've always warred - but because we're doing our usual tribalist warring with tools exacerbating global warming to a point of no return: 7 of 8 planetary metrics already surpassed with no sign of them on the decline anytime soon. Our brains cannot conceive the scale of harm our oil imperialism has done.
I'd like to see both might and mind on the side of right and kind*!
