Two more SCOTUS decisions... two more steps on the path to leaving this country behind. I spent most of my life defending this country with my solemn oath to support and defend the Constitution, but the domestic enemies that have packed the federal court system that is destroying the idea of America as a bastion of freedom where anyone has the chance to succeed, have worn me down.
America - land of the lawyer, home of the lobbyist, where any rich, politically connected person can thrive.
@Synical Please rethink your decision. The past 60 years have been hard fought. The tipping point was Obama's two-term presidency. The federalist fascists and their ilk are hell-bent on reshaping America into a 1% White Male Christian Ruled authoritarian nation. Since 1776 Americans have beaten those who were hell-bent on destroying her. We have more grit and back-bone than the small minority who HATE democracy. We have to keep fighting until ALL fascists are crushed.
@ReneeVoiceBrand Great points, Renee - but I'm tired. Our family is multi-cultural, I have a transgender sibling, LGBTQIA+ children, and we used to consider ourselves "American."
But the "America" of today is beginning to look more and more like what we used to read about during the fight for civil rights, the push by Germany's DNVP in the 1930s that led to Hitler, and Bosnia in the mid-90s.
Guess those that ignore history in pursuit of power are dooming us to repeat it once more.
@ReneeVoiceBrand We've talked about it. One of the first questions the kids asked: "Do they have active shooter drills at schools in ______?" For us, home is wherever family is - one of the byproducts of moving around so much while my spouse and I served. Now it's starting to come down to Maslow's hierarchy, on where we feel safe.
@Synical 💔 The 'active shooter' question just floored me! You need to do what is best for your family. I'm sorry you served to defend and protect the rights that are now being stripped away. I descend from the Greatest Generation. Their honor won't be stomped on by evil.
