Sandhill Cranes migration

These 2 arrived early evening, circled the pond a dozen times before landing, then made loud calls to alert other passing cranes they'd found a safe place to spend the night. Flocks then started landing.

Pollinator hard at work

Feather-legged scoliidae wasp.

I know. I know. But despite their fearsome appearance, they're the good guys. They're non-aggressive (I'm less than six inches from it and it's not bothered by me in any way so long as I'm respectful). They seek out and destroy invasive tree bark beetle larva. Their presence is an indicator of a healthy ecosystem.

Plus, they just look so damn cool in macro.

Shooting in weird purple, very low light after a thunderstorm.

It was almost sunset anyway and I was actually packing up the gear for the day, when I saw this young male Ruby foraging among the flowers...

Good night. See you tomorrow.

Tired of me posting about politics?

Let me make it up to you. Please accept this hummingbird lapping up spilled nectar.

They don't believe in democracy.

Which is why they're working so damn hard to make certain your vote isn't counted.

I didn't say it. THEY did. Over and over.
