i hear peeps say, 'you can't even compliment anyone anymore cuz someone will take it the wrong way'.

what i find is that peeps are not willing to tolerate compliments that make them feel uncomfortable & no longer let 'politeness' override their sense of safety or comfort.

many women also view compliments coming from cis het men w/ suspicion b/c they have to assess whether it's a come on or sending a 'mixed signal if they say 'thanks'.

are there compliments that are okay/appreciated?

Compliments are an important adult version of positive parenting, mine focuses on praising behavior I want to see more of while using negative consequences sometimes when needed (ie no screen time).

Compliments in someone’s skills, attitude, approach are always warranted. Compliments on someone’s physical attributes should be used sparingly and only in that “no expectations “ way.

Society has trained us to complain, but we should call out good work and behavior regularly 😊
