So I was born and raised in Ontario, Canada (short stint in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in my youth). I use “y’all”!
Honest question tho… why do some people use it when talking to/about a single person? Also, from whence comes the phrase “all y’all”..?
@Luber905 @CJShaneArtBooks @JanetZumba_FalPals @LnzyHou Grew up in Kentucky, early adulthood in Alaska in Kansas, and now in North Carolina. Somewhere I picked up a y’all habit. I use it as an expression of incredulity. the difference between y’all and all y’all is emphasis on a way the group is all alike. All y’all comes up more often if I’m being teasingly judging. When I used to teach middle school Spanish, I found y’all useful for explaining the difference between usted with ustedes.
