If you haven't already, I would encourage everyone to listen to Rachel Maddow's podcast Ultra (both seasons.)

It is both entertaining and instructive about our relatively recent history. And it is history most of us didn't receive in school.

I knew vaguely about Joe McCarthy using anti-communism campaign as a weapon. I didn't know about the fascist movement behind him. And how it continued from pro-Nazi sentiment in U.S. in WW2.

Scary, but necessary to learn so we don't repeat it.

There is more content I see on the website (pictures etc.) I may review as well.

Malmedy Massacre was particularly abhorrent. U.S. representatives amplify Nazi propaganda that the REAL victims were the SS prisoners oppressed by Jewish service members, not the servicemen massacred by the SS.

Nuts, but a subset of the population was all too ready to believe it.

I learned a whitewashed version of history where American heroes united and were unified as we defeated fascist powers in WW2. Only much later did I learn of Nazi sympathizers like Lindbergh and Ford (Their reputations were also largely whitewashed by history taught in schools.)
