Texas residents only, please.

Dare I dream? Could Allred beat Cruz for the Senate? He is running a moderate campaign, promising to break with party and President when he thinks they are wrong. (Cruz ran scary ads saying Beto would just be a puppet for Pelosi. Not one ad had substance, just scare tactics.) Pelosi apparently was manifest evil

@S_r_stone If there was a free and fair elections in Texas it would be solid blue.

@Kinnison If Biden had carried the RGV like Hillary did, plus the gains he made overall over 2016, he carries Texas in 2020.

Turnout was great for Biden. But he lost a lot of Hispanic voters who had supported Hillary.

@S_r_stone

there is too much gerrymandering, voter suppression, and likely corruption involved to point the finger at a voting block for the reason of an election loss. it is ignoring the forest because of the trees.

@Kinnison All that was in both elections. Gerrymandering has nothing to do with the statewide election as well.

It is a fact. Biden did better overall than Hillary in TX, but did it while losing in districts Hillary won in 2016.

It is too easy to broadly blame the factor of voter suppression (overcome mostly by pure will in every metro area) that will be present unless a voting rights bill with teeth passes.

We need to reflect on whether avoidable mistakes were made and how to correct them.

@Kinnison The only place gerrymandering comes into play is in the House. I live in a district that came too close to flipping in 2018. Suddenly my area got lumped into a solid Dem district in 2020. That was done to protect Dan Crenshaw, who picked up more rural areas on the new map to lock his seat.

It is all legal though as long as they can show doubt it wasn't racial. Sadly, no law exists to prohibit drawing lines to maximize chances to win. Needs to change.

@S_r_stone

I agree Gerrymandering is at the district level. But also that same Gerrymandering allows the minority to rule over the majority and enact laws to suppress votes and maintain their power

now talk about voter suppression and how it affects elections. Long lines at polls (in poor and minority areas), needing to register with Photo ID 30 days before election, limiting vote by mail, limiting assistance, and penalties that tend to disproportionately target women of color

Follow

@Kinnison Agree, but that was beside my point.

All those factors were in play BOTH in 2016 and 2020. I am talking about differences between 2016 and 2020.

We need to own the things we can control, not just rant about the ones we can't.

I stated facts about the differences. We lost a voting block. Why, and how can it be corrected?

@Kinnison IOW, I did talk about voter suppression in my prior post. It is there. Now what?

We can't afford to keep having gains offset by losses in other areas.

@S_r_stone

again. going back to your first reply. I do not think Biden Carrying RGV or not is a very good reason. nor a strong case could be made for it deciding texas state wide. when we got a minority power controlling the statewide elections via gerrymandering, and being corrupt enough to bring forth many policies to suppress votes.

I stand my my statement. If there was a free and fair elections in Texas, with automatic mail in voting like oregon, it would be solidly blue

@Kinnison The actual numbers disagree. This isn't my opinion. This is sober analysis of actual results in comparing the two elections.

This exchange is proof it isn't just right wing that dismisses evidence that contradicts their preconceptions.

Yes, free and fair, etc. etc. Agree. But that ain't happening until GOP control of state government is overcome. Well short of that objective, DNC could correct the mistakes of 2020 to win back the RGV but keep the gains elsewhere.
