I had heard of Bass Reeves for some time from podcasts, even Warchmen beginning, as the inspiration for the Lone Ranger. I knew he was black and set records for the number of captured criminals.
But somehow I was surprised to learn he was a slave to a Confederate officer. The series on Paramount+ begins with slaves being compelled to fight for the Confederacy (or get shot in the back.)
This show may be educational and entertaining.

@S_r_stone I saw a couple of episodes on Pluto. He had belonged to one of the captured Confederates. That guy I think was killed, so Bass was able to get away.
