There's an article in The Atlantic about older women disappearing.
If someone could share that our I would appreciate it
Moreso, I would also like the takes of the older women here who have read it.
@SECRET_ASIAN_MAN Do you know approximately when it was published?
@SECRET_ASIAN_MAN There's a piece from 2019, The Invisibility of Older Women, that might be what you are looking for.
It begins, "In Alfred Hitchcock’s 1938 film, The Lady Vanishes, a young woman on a train becomes disturbed by the sudden disappearance of a kindly older woman, a governess and music teacher."
I can post a gift link.
@Coctaanatis that's the one!
@Coctaanatis discovered it was the 2019
@Coctaanatis I am still processing the death of #DenisePrudhomme. This subject is important to me. Thanks.
@SECRET_ASIAN_MAN That was a weird situation. Did you know her?
@Coctaanatis 7 no. And whoever did might be ashamed.
She's not alone in dying alone, it just saddens me.
@SECRET_ASIAN_MAN Being anywhere is a risk for girls and women of all ages.
@SECRET_ASIAN_MAN Becoming invisible to the male gaze is only a problem if that is the totality of your identity. We all lose allure, including men. The problem arises when physical attractiveness is all the power you ever had. In the patriarchy it is easier for men to transition to economic power and the power of "male authority". On the other hand, MI5 and the CIA are recruiting middle aged women for their very ability to disappear into the background (and for their emotional intelligence).
@SECRET_ASIAN_MAN I hope someone has access and shares it.
