@MidnightRider I may wait to find out by hearing those songs live for the first time.

It's a fun thing I like.

@SECRET_ASIAN_MAN It’s a fun thing we all used to like when the musicians were better and not singing through some voice correction device.

@MidnightRider when I finally saw The Stones live, much of it felt canned.

@SECRET_ASIAN_MAN I liked the two stones shows I went to. But nobody topped going to see Genesis live in my opinion.

@MidnightRider Phil Collins songs have been plaguing me lately. I must go to their concert if there's a chance.

My favorite.

Home the Sea

@SECRET_ASIAN_MAN That’s a decent song, but by then I felt that Genesis had taken a huge turn. I’d much rather hear watcher of the sky or especially supper’s ready.

@MidnightRider I'll remember to give it a listen later today!

I need a new fascination. Alternative has sucked in the 2020s after an awesome 2010s.

There, I said it.

Anyway, rediscovering the old may just be fresh.

@SECRET_ASIAN_MAN “ If you go down to willow farm to look for butterflies, flutterbys, gutterflies. Open your eyes, it’s full of surprise everyone lies like the fox on the rocks and the musical box”.

@SECRET_ASIAN_MAN @MidnightRider
What alt-bands from the 2010's did you like? There's is a lot of great music out there right now. I'm sure we can find something for you to obsess over!

I'm also more of a pre-MAMA Genesis fan. They really lost me on that record ("Illegal Alien"??).

@MPCavalier I have a lot of Marillion. Like certain strong cheeses, this band isn’t for everyone but the lyrics are fierce.

@MidnightRider
Fish, IMHO, is one of the best lyricists in prog. When he really found his groove on Misplaced Childhood and Clutching at Straws, he was the best out there (and a great front man too). I liked the first few albums of the Hogarth-era, but the music became a little too contemplative later on. Fish's solo stuff is mostly really good too.

@MPCavalier I have his solo stuff. I think clutching at straws is one of the best efforts but Fugazi is incredible too.

@MidnightRider
Agreed. Those first 4 albums are amazing. I saw them, actually it turns out 41 years ago yesterday, open up for Rush at Radio City Music Hall. The crowd HATED them. Fish may have been over-performing those nights. Of course, in ensuing years a lot of those people came around. I got to see FISH a few times on his USA tours and he was always great.

@MPCavalier His lyrics are searing but his singing is an acquired taste. I like it, but I can understand why others don’t.

@MidnightRider
I've heard things like "over-emotive", "overly dramatic" but I always thought it was a great fit. He's not a "great" singer but I can't think of anyone else that could have conveyed those lyrics as effectively.

@SECRET_ASIAN_MAN @MidnightRider
I saw them in the early 80's and they were horrible!! J Geils blew them away
