I don't know about overreach, but they are just wrong. I think the occasional colloquial humorous filler message actually *increases* engagement with the signs.
I've never seen them post a Dr Seuss poem about anything serious though, like "Bridge Collapse" or "Toxic Spill". They play it straight with the critical stuff.
