People say that, I reckon, but they are inaccurate. That's like telling an actual Italian that a sixth-generation American is Italian because it's a state of mind. Or an Irishman that a Bostonian is Irish because.
I'm Southern, as are a lot of people who aren't inbred cousin-fuckers who fantasize about gun violence. Are Ohioans southern, too? Are Pennsylvanians? Are whatever the heck you call people from Maine? Don't ask Texans if they're Southern.
@thedisasterautist @SECRET_ASIAN_MAN The friend was trying to explain something bigoted (his nearly sexual lust for confederate flags) as a “southern thing.” I countered by saying that there are lots of liberals all over the south and that he was generalising. His answer to that was the “southern state of mind” comment, as to say that those that thought differently weren’t real southerners. So I made the FAS comparison to piss him off.

Alaska and Wyoming are VERY not southeastern, and Missouri is a northern state, whether you ask southeasterners or Missourians.
