The LP community believes its better to live as they are and not try and lengthen limbs to "fit in". Dr. Kopits often had to correct awful results performed by doctors who had never treated a Little Person before and had a poor understanding of how bones and joints of little people change with age and size. They are one in 20,000 births.

@thewebrecluse Thank you! It shows how we think everyone needs to be ground down to fit some mold rather than let people be themselves. Some doctors thought they were helping, but the power of bias is enormous. When you are entirely ignorant of the anatomical realities and let societal preconceptions hold sway, it becomes debilitating arrogance. LIFE was supposed to publish, then backed out at the last minute because they felt the images were "too real." Sigh.
@Romquest Too real? What in the world does that even mean?????? This is photo evidence of people's LIVES ... how typical of them to want to turn away and keep the truth from people. This is why people live in such states of ignorance. I'm even more thankful for your shares.
@thewebrecluse It's why LIFE went from Eugene Smith and real journalism to instead be sold at the grocery store. Thanks again.
@Romquest Incredibly powerful photos. Thank you. ❤️
@Romquest Thank you for sharing this series and providing this information. I was not aware of limb lengthening surgery which just sounds absolutely awful.
