i'm curious my american friends - and forgive my ignorance.

but dems have a majority in the house & senate, no? if my understanding is correct, why don't they have the votes to codify roe into federal law?

in canada we have the house and senate & bills need to pass both before being approved into law. when a party has a majority, this usually happens fairly smoothly. does it not work that way in the us?

@singlemaltgirl oh my sweet summer child. We got slavery baggage being the oldest republic, namely the filibuster that has forced a 60 vote majority to pass anything. And we have senate seats that are appointed based on plots of land as opposed to population of people. So empty states still get 2 senate votes just like states with millions of people. It effectively has paralyzed the government for 40 years.

@Redcarpet ha ha. yes, my ignorance is showing. but i can be educated :)

altho the us isn't the oldest republic, is it? that would have been france which kicked the whole liberte fraternite egalite, no? or certainly somewhere in europe. could have even been the romans for all i know.

@singlemaltgirl ehhh guess I’m wrong on that. But still we are a very old republic compared to a lot of Europe.
