Some time ago, I said you might want to hold off buying a used car until June. But the way inflation in this industry is cooling -- in fact, I'd say used cars are on the brink of their own recession -- means there should be affordable values on the dealer lot pretty soon. Maybe February. Prices rose marginally in January; price cuts are probably around the corner. #CoSoFinance https://publish.manheim.com/en/services/consulting/used-vehicle-value-index.html
@Myana My wife is nudging me to sell my old Honda CRV to our daughter, who is driving an even more ancient Nissan Cube. I may do it, and buy a Prius.
@RealSeanBrodrick I urge you to test drive extensively unless you're familiar with Priuses.
We had an early model and loathed it. The sight lines were so bad I thought it should be illegal and the engine would occasionally just not start. (Inconvenient when you're at a hiking trailhead...) Newer models are probably better.
My husband got in an accident driving it. He called me. After making sure everyone was ok I said, "PLEASE tell me you totaled the Prius!"
And he had, so all was good. 😋
@Myana Thanks for the heads up. And that's a funny story, though probably not fun to live through. The Prius was just redesigned; we'll see. https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/2023-toyota-prius-prius-prime-debuts-striking-redesign/
@RealSeanBrodrick That is great to know! My 1996 Toyota Corolla has been nothing short of heroic. But I'm definitely in the market for a used car. 😜
