Why is the letter 'W' in English called double u? Shouldn't it be called double v?

@RayFerd61 @Alfred If I remember correctly, it's called that because when it first became a letter, that's how it was written; as a "double-u". The name stuck, even as the letter evolved over time to what it is today.
