While the links to D&D & the murders & suicides were debunked, The Church & groups like "The Eagle's Nest" were quick to say the game was a Doorway to The Occult.
Gary Gygax debunked the claim that the game was possessed, among other alse claims by saying "Somebody said they threw their copy of Dungeons and Dragons into the fire, and it screamed. It’s a game! The magic spells in it are as real as the gold. Try retiring on that stuff."
@RavenCutrereULC When I moved to East Lansing in 1980 they were still in a big panic over a 16 year old who disappeared from campus supposedly while playing D&D in the steam tunnels with friends.
It’s a game but they make it into more than it is. Just like everything else.
