@RandallTT

we looked at taking the train across Canada.. the cars look beautiful, the trip goes great places but the $$$ is very high and doesn't included getting to and from the train... We did the Empire Builder instead.

@tgraph52 Yes, the cost was high but as a once in a lifetime experience we thought it would be worth it (and I still think it was).
What is the Empire Builder?

@RandallTT

Amtrak train route that goes from Portland, OR to Chicago, IL.

@tgraph52 Okay, yes I've heard about it and have thought about doing some long Amtrak journeys (one of these days).

@RandallTT

From what I can tell, the Canadian trains are of a higher caliber than Amtrak service...

When I finished 6th grade, we had a class trip from Mpls, MN to Washington, DC by train... One to Chicago and then another to DC...

I like trains.. my wife, not so much

@tgraph52 I love trains too!
The Canadian passenger train system is really divided. From Toronto east there is frequent service and there has been a lot of modernization of the trains.
In Western Canada we only have 2 trains per week (each way) on the Toronto to Vancouver line and I believe the cars date back to the 1950's! They have always been clean, functional and in good repair though.

@KamloopsBob

I enjoyed the trip very much... hours along the Columbia River and then waking up in Glacier..

Once you drop into middle ND it gets a little long though πŸ˜‡
