No, it's a tradition -- not sure exactly where from -- that for luck, the first thing you say on the first day of every month is "rabbit, rabbit" (and I've also heard "rabbits").

My mother-in-law was doing this as far back as when I met my wife (in the late 1970s) -- she'd always ask me on the "first," "Did you say 'rabbits'?" -- but few people at the time were aware of this tradition.
