I share details of my violent childhood & 1st marriage because not talking about it contributes to the stigma surrounding DV. Discussion increases awareness, which helps create an environment safer for those of us who are victims and/or survivors. Ignoring something by not talking about it only perpetuates the problem. My story may give someone else the courage to leave a bad situation & live a better life . I refuse to be ashamed of who I am or what I have endured & overcome.

@TheEyeOfBalor thank you for the encouragement! It's not always an easy thing to do, but we have to stop pretending this kind of stuff doesn't happen.

@Oma_Trisha
Been there and have the scars to prove it, so I KNOW where you're coming from.
As you already know, the road to healing can only be accomplished by "walking over the hot coals" of our trauma(s.)
I acknowledge your journey, and encourage you to keep walking the path, my friend, because Freedom lives on the other end of it!! ✊

@TheEyeOfBalor
Thank you! Those coals burn the hell out of my feet sometimes, but I'm hoping the prints I leave behind encourage others. We need to stop pretending it doesn't happen, minimizing the damage it causes in a generational way, and perpetuating it by ignoring it. If that means I have to get gross and crude and graphic, then that's what I'll do. I have no secrets to hide. Not any longer.

@Oma_Trisha
Personal Freedom waits on the other side of those coals, in my experience.

I'm pretty damn close. I'm at the point now where what most other people think of me really doesn't matter any longer. That only took 60 years......
