Recent significant rise in scarlet fever has led to a significant increase in the number of invasive group A streptococcal infections with increased mortality in paediatric patients.

@NorthernInvader I had that when I was a young child. It’s definitely not a fun time.

@Siren_six I had measles and chickenpox as a child in the 50s. Both are effing awful.

@NorthernInvader I was thankfully able to avoid measles because I got vaccinated but I got hit with chickenpox bad too. It all sucks that’s true. 😂

@Siren_six If you haven't already get your Shingrix shots ASAP because you really don't want to get Shingles, and once you had Chicken Pox the varicella zoster virus is in your body for life and it causes Shingles. I suffered for several months a few years ago - got the shot ASAP after that.

I was lucky I didn't get mumps as a kid - my older brother did and as he was already pubescent it was extremely painful for him

@NorthernInvader Yeah, I plan to get the shingles vaccine when I’m old enough. They don’t give you that one here until you reach 50.

@NorthernInvader scarlet fever is not vaccine preventable. There has been an increase of strept throat and left untreated can lead to scarlet fever.

@Lavanilla yes but RSV, seasonal flu, COVID all have vaccines and those diseases lower immunity to other viruses and bacteria. There has been a significant increase in vaccine avoidance and thus an increase in this lower immunity to all infections.
