So there's this new show on TV called Drink Masters. I was an award winning bartender for 18 years in a 4 star hotel cocktail lounge and I just had to laugh at this show. Oh sure their creations are quite cream but in the real world of cocktail lounges you don't have 30 minutes to make a drink π€£. On a busy night I'd have to make >50 drinks in that time.
@DyDave yup. There was this one customer who sat at bar and asked me to make new shooters for him all night. Fortunately it wasn't too busy but it still pissed me off at the time.
I used to coach customers to order a super-dry martini. They were in a luxury hotel, so they deserved a treat, but I had glasses to polish π
It made them feel fancy, and there was a little theatre with the swizzle stick (I contend that James Bond is just watering down his drink with the 'shaken, not stirred' thing π ), but it's just a slightly complicated way to drink straight gin so it didn't suck up too much time.
@NorthernInvader girlie tried to get me (a fellow former bartender of considerably less prestige) to watch that show. I nearly sprained my eyes I rolled them so hard. :)
@MookyTroubadour I could only laugh. An absurd concept
@NorthernInvader I worked in a steel town shot and a beer bar. Anyone who ordered a mixed drink was escorted to the door.
@NorthernInvader
So true!
I used to get (internally) so furious when anyone ordered a fancy cocktail.
