@amarand That's what I'm thinking. Cid is especially brutal, but it fits the culture and the world that he understands, all the while trying to prepare them for even worse when they're actually on mission.
I have a high fantasy version of Sere training they go through later on, that due to the presence of healing magic in the world, is not at all pretty.
Again, not saying its right, just that there are harsh realities to how people treat other people in various worlds.
Yup. And you’re the World Maker so…as long as you keep things congruent to your world design, that’s literally all that matters. If it makes sense to you, it makes sense. Let them go write their own books. 😹
@amarand Oh indeed. I do confess to a certain level of "Oh come on" though when I get sandbagged with a .5 star rating ^_^

I feel the person might have had some personal traumatic Experiences. when Cids behaviour at the beginning of their training rattles them much.
He protecs his own heart, bonding earzlz bz seeing them as likebale humans with pain and sorrow, whe thez are probabilz going to diequicklz bc he pampered them/would destroz him. -, knows about the live threatening dangers and relativelz short time to prepare them not to die on their first missions alone is his primary goaland this is the
@NiveusLepus only way , he believes in achieving it.
He acts sadistically perheps-but Idon´t see him as a sadist.
You´ve replied with a lot of grace and pointing out the importance of the cultural values thatt differ from ours.

Sad fact: drill sergeants have to be mean in order to train recruits how to kill without question. Anyone who says you’re “glorifying” a drill sergeant’s on-the-job personality, probably hasn’t been to actual war, or trained for war. 🤷🏻♂️
