While they referred to themselves as Roman until they bitter end, one must not forget that Romand greatly admired Greece and adopted many facets of Greek culture as Roman. Roman elites thought of Greek as more intimate then Latin and many spoke both throughout Roman history. There is no way to have the Rome we know without Greece.
