Continued heavy rains will pose an ongoing flood risk in the lower Mississippi Valley, with the risk of heavy downpours and some flooding extending toward Atlanta and the Cumberland Plateau of Tennessee. Meteorologist Matthew Cappucci has an update.

Major Flooding in the South

A general 4 to 8 inches of rain, with localized 12-inch totals, is expected through the end of the week. Several locations in east Texas and northwest Louisiana have already seen 8 inches or more. Flash flooding is ongoing. A red zone risk for flash flooding and excessive rainfall has been drawn by the Weather Prediction Center. MyRadar meteorologist Matthew Cappucci has an update.

Increasing Flood Risk in South

A widespread 4 to 8 inches of rain, with localized 10-inch totals, is expected through the end of the week across Texas, the Arklatex, and the lower Mississippi Valley. Trees now have a shimmer as ice continues to accumulate near Henryetta, Oklahoma. Powerlines are also seeing accumulation.
