@Armchaircouch once a running mate is confirmed at the party convention, i don't think he gets to change his mind. McCain was saddled with Palin and he could have won if he could have dumped her for someone else
@redenigma @Armchaircouch In the early years of the republic, the president and vice president were not really yoked together at all. The Vice President was whoever got the second most votes for President in the Elector College. Sometimes a Vice President would remain in office while a new President was elected and installed. The last example of this tradition was John C. Calhoun.
