It’s a removal of the need for humanity and empathy for students in crisis. Because you KNOW that when two hormonal teenagers start brawling in the hall that gun is coming out instead of de-escalation training.
Even rumors of a gun carried by a teacher could mentally terrorize students. It shifts the balance of power even further out of a child’s control. So when a coach makes suggestive comments, do you think that student will feel comfortable reporting it when there are rumors that Mr. Gym Coach has a gun?
Oh but that could never/has never happened before, right, TN?
You are soooo right.
Plus, we have all seen the results of, if only there was a ggodguy with a gun. There were over a hundred at Uvalde.
No teacher has ever been charged as a sexual predator.
You are so right, this is nonsense.
@MotherDucker It's a feature, not a bug. They want to deputize teachers to rule by fear, like they do the cops in that and other contexts. Obey authority or get shot, no appeals. They may say "no exceptions," but we all know whose kids are going to get deference.
It’s difficult enough for many parents, not knowing if their child’s teacher is a good human who should be in a classroom full of children. This is a slippery fucking slope that could go devastatingly wrong a million times over the possible one time it could go right—if you call shooting dead someone in crisis right.
We’ve all become desensitized to acts of horror, violence and terror… but we have got to do better and not become used to it. Nothing about this is normal.
