@misterfive I definitely had to Google it, because I was hoping it was about my Favorite 12th century nun, Hildegard Von Bingen. It's not, but it still sounds like a great book. I am a history nerd at heart. Specifically medieval art history.
Yeah, I think the MC is completely fictional. It was a fascinating book.
@MotherDucker Demon Copperfield by Barbara Kingsolver was great.
@MotherDucker for beautiful, my all time favorite is The Night Circus. It does have light romance, but mostly the focus is on magic.
I adored the mind-blowing factor of The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue. Also mind blowing was The Death of Mrs. Westaway. If these are your kind of thing, I have others like them.

@MotherDucker I listened to Starless Sea on audio while I painted a bathroom, but it didn't suck me in like Night Circus. 😍 So if you like Night Circus, you might also like Keeper of Enchanted Rooms, which is presently free on Kindle Unlimited if you have access. Try also The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison. I'll keep digging through my Kindle history and see if I can find things that might be checked in!

I just finished Matrix by Lauren Groff, a historical book about a nun during the 12th century. What fascinated me most about it is that it's about a strong woman who is strong in female ways, not in male ways. Though she is considered to have some male-like traits, those aren't the strengths that are explored heavily by the book.
