I've been arguing by email with RW friend following the MSU tragedy. Every time I show the correlation between increasing gun sales and increasing homicides & mass shooting, he trots out his "correlation doesn't prove causality" line. He argued that strong gun controls don't work. I responded with the Australian example. He responded with a H.W. Bush DOJ publication from 1992 that argued that gun controls don't work. I pointed out that the paper was published 4 years BEFORE the shooting 1/n

that led to the stronger gun controls and the huge gun buyback program.
He responded with a picture of a sign on a Sydney beach that requires all joggers to wear a helmet. "I don't want to live in a country like that!" The sign was fake, produced by a libertarian artist who produces a lot of anti-government art.
I don't know what to do with this friend. 2/n n=2

@peterquirk You already know what you need to do. The only question is whether you'll do the right thing for yourself.
