🚨Question: So those previous twitter verified accounts… are they now paying $8.00 to melon husk or what? #twitter
@MoonFish Prior to the acquisition, verification was free, it involved working directly w/a verification team to provide proof of both your identity & credentials as a public figure.
The previous monthly payment setup was for a service called Twitter Blue (basically a premium user tier they had just started rolling out) - those folks are now paying the new guy for Twitter Blue, which now also includes a pointless checkmark.
@vexisidhe
So does that mean accounts such as joeBiden, thewhitehouse, brooklyndaddefiant, meidasTouch,…etc are paying the guy 8.00 monthly?
So basically they are condoning his behavior..!? 🤬
Great
@MoonFish No, you're thinking of it as one continuous program when it's actually 3 different programs: the verification checkmark, the Twitter Blue sub, and Musk's dumb new Twitter Blue sub + checkmark combo.
Everyone who had a checkmark before Musk isn't paying anything to anyone. Ppl who used to pay for Blue didn't have checkmarks. Now ppl who pay for blue get checkmarks AND verified ppl still have theirs. It's dumb as hell.
@vexisidhe good grief! What a fking mess he created- single handedly
@MoonFish Yeah, it's wild - merging a premium subscriber program with an identity verification system is unhinged. It'd be like if your state (assuming you're in the US) tomorrow said "you can either still get a driver's license by verifying your identity via other documents, or you can pay us $20 a month to have a state ID that just says whatever you want on it."
