I think what’s kept me from ever being a gamer is that I want everything unlocked and to be in God mode all the time.
I’m not interested in a challenge- I want to be entertained. That’s not really how that world works.
When I want a challenge, I go to 3D Printers and CAD and so on- where I end up making something.

That's how the early years of D&D worked out for me and my brother. We weren't really interested in adventuring, we just enjoyed designing castles and stuff.
