I think something got lost along the way somewhere. In the 60’s if you were protesting something like racism or Viet Nam, you had a sit in or whatever, and got arrested peaceably to call attention to the matter and overload the court dockets.

Now you close a school or a freeway and demand NOT to be arrested?

That’s no longer Civil Disobedience. That’s just being an asshole.

@MookyTroubadour I was there in the 60's. Even when there were nonviolent protests, people got their asses beat.

Civil disobedience is _supposed_ to shut things down and cause inconvenience.

Protesting by being quiet and well-behaved is called "doing nothing and letting them get away with it".

@AskTheDevil shutting down paths to hospitals is a dick move no matter the cause. Go shut down Congress. Take it to those who are in a position to do something about it.

@MookyTroubadour Ideally, you plan a rally so it doesn't interfere with a hospital.

But I feel that doesn't happen so much, and is being brought up to make the protesters look like people who can be happily arrested during an election year, because THOSE MONSTERS ARE BLOCKING HOSPITALS!

When students are protesting, and authorities wave guns around and arrest them, you probably shouldn't assume the protesters are the problem, you should make the authorities prove _they_ aren't the monsters.

@AskTheDevil well, the cops are going to be the monsters they enjoy being. They have only gotten worse since Kent State.

If you’re familiar with Arlo Guthrie’s song “Alice’s Restaurant”, the cops remain the “Group W” types.

@MookyTroubadour @AskTheDevil

"A two foot cop with a six foot gun" describes so many of them, if we're talking about the size of their soul.
