Whoever the guy is who does all the narration for the Discovery/History/TLC shows he never takes the time to look up how to pronounce things. Slacker.
I’m hearing him butcher “Antikythera” presently. Fffff.
@MookyTroubadour I've done a few , and normally, they give us a pronunciation key before the read.. sounds like a slack producer
@MookyTroubadour: Same goes for roughly 70% of every YouTuber, IG and TikTok "influencer", and even indie audiobook narrators.
There are two "foodies" on YouTube who are "experts" on Spanish and other foods, and they pronounced paprika as "PAP-rickuh". I want to sew their mouths shut. They use PAPrickuh in every video and talk of their extensive traveling and learning from Spanish or other chefs across Europe. They also say arugula is "AH-roogla" and more.
@thedisasterautist AH-roogla! 🤣
Benedict Cumberbatch voiced one about penguins in which he failed to pronounce the word "penguin" correctly even once. 🤣
@fernfren the British seem to take delight in mangling select words- particularly foreign ones. Have you ever heard how they attempt to say “Nicaragua”?
Knee-car-rag-you-uhh… 🤦♂️
sometimes, when no one else is around, i like to pronounce aluminum the british way, out loud for no frickin reason
al YOO men EE um
@fernfren for this particular absurdity you can thank a Brit- Humphrey Davy. He discovers the element and names it. Great. Then he reconsiders the spelling and changes it, introducing mayhem. It’s not merely that they pronounce it differently- they spell it differently as well. 🤦♂️
@MookyTroubadour whomever the guy is he is prolific af. I doubt bt there was a narration offer on the table he turned down.
