If someone complains they’ve been “cancelled,” doesn’t that just mean they’ve been criticized? And perhaps . . . criticism was warranted?

@Mj_Osa Free speech comes with consequences. I think people forget that part.

@cmtinkerton Usually the consequences are social - disapproval, reprimand, distancing, etc. Legal consequences (libel, slander lawsuits) are expensive and time-consuming. Social disapprobation is the only method normal people have to oppose offensive or distasteful conduct. The claim of “cancel culture” is just a way to preclude that. What they want is impunity. No consequences.
