Watching The Haunting of Hill House on Netflix with earpods so the noise wouldn’t disturb my partner who was industriously coding in another room. My blood-curdling scream at a good jump scare kind of defeated the purpose.
@ranch_cat The 1963 version starred Claire Bloom and Julie Harris. Anthony Lane, New Yorker film critic, wrote about how how director Robert Wise created such psychological tension that viewers could be freaked out by “doors … that open…and …close.” Scared the shit out of me. I was 10.

@Mj_Osa It was the fairly new (2 year old or so) series directed by Mike Flanagan. Still have a few episodes to go, but I highly recommend it!
