These days, due to the gooseberry’s dwindling popularity, they are sometimes referred to as “the forgotten fruit.” https://www.atlasobscura.com/articles/gooseberry-show
@estherschindler Very interesting. I used to pick gooseberries for my Mom who had a friend with quite a number of them growing.
@MisterE @estherschindler
We also picked gooseberries for gooseberry pie!
@CherNohio Excellent. I love Gooseberries.
@CherNohio I would have probably enjoyed the food that your grandparents ate. Not unlike what I grew up with.
@CherNohio I grew up around that kind of people. Salt of the Earth.
@MisterE It was pretty basic good food. We lived off the land and raised our own cattle, hogs, chickens, sheep and goats for food and milk. Fresh fruits and vegetables were plentiful harvested from the huge gardens planted each year. There were no processed foods or additives. Food actually tasted good. Of course lots and lots of baked goods. It was the way of life. Simple but hard work.
