Let's see if the n00b can do a thread... We had good results this summer with these watering bags for young fruit trees. They zip around the tree and you fill them with 20 gallons of water, then they do a slow trickle for a few hours.

A closer look. We have lots of deer adventures, thus the tree zoo. I keep cutting away bits of the cages to let branches through or fill up the watering bags. We tried several different kinds and every one had the little drain hole plug up. A poke with a pocketknife worked fine.

Last picture, after washing off entire civilizations of slugs. Drained 'em on the deckrail, then stacked 'em in the garage. I think they'll all be good for next summer too. Was a big help for trees a long ways from the house.
