"My first big recipe was shark repellant that I mixed in a bathtub for the Navy, for the men who might get caught in the water."

Before she mastered the art of French cooking, Julia Child cooked up shark repellent while working for the precursor to the CIA as a covert operative during World War II. Sharks kept unintentionally setting off underwater explosives meant for German U-boats — until Child came up with an inventive recipe that saved the day.

I am happy when my family of 4 produces one black bag of trash, but 2 of recycle plus 2lbs of scraps to compost per week.

It's just nuts how how effortless she makes this look. Ella's scatting is so fun to listen to and to 'try' to sing along (my poor parents then, and now my wife). Such a badass legend. Her birthday is next month (25th?).
In SO many more words than I ment to say at this point, Love ❤️ this 😍 ! One of my faves.🤘

Good morning! The mountains are trying to keep their blanket on and sleep in. They appear to be as unsuccessful at that as me.

Today's features two legends -- Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington, in "It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing" from an Ed Sullivan show.
Do-wop before it was cool.
Enjoy.

Day 13

Good morning!
Beautiful day on tap here, sunny and highs in the 70s. The bear was back last night; it appears Lucy the Lab-ish dog treed him. He must be a teenager bear to be intimidated by her.
That's the daily weather here in the ancient VA Blue Ridge.

The bear on the mountain is up early this year. My senior GSD and goofball Lab chased him off but not before he got into the feeder. Little birdies, your eating days are coming to a close this year.

If there's one thing I've learned in a half century on this planet, it's that this world can take away almost anything we think we've got. Money, friends, family, health. But many of those things we can build back.

Integrity is one thing that can't be taken from us, we can only give it up ourselves. Once we sell that out, we've truly got nothing.

So I am yet another year sober. They just keep adding up as long as I keep doing the next right thing. I let the universe be the boss because I suck at it if I do it myself. If I hadn't stayed sober this long I would not have seen a second grandchild come into the world, be getting the education I am, and have the love of someone amazing.
My kids are all but one sober because they saw mom could do it. My friends and family take this time to remind me of how close I came to losing everything 1/2

Day 12

Today's is "Stardreams" by Charlie Spivak and his orchestra from 1944.
What a trumpet! Underrated and not as well known, but deserving.
