Sometimes #InTheLibrary for the #MarshallFoundationLibrary is elsewhere --
Last Friday @georgecmarshall
gave the Goodpaster award to Gen. James McConville, who like Gen. George Marshall served as Army Chief of Staff.
The celebration was lovely, held at the Army Navy Country Club.
#ElizebethSmithFriedman left this world on Halloween, 1980.
Elizebeth & her husband, William, invented the science of cryptology. She worked as the chief cryptanalyst for the Coast Guard breaking codes during Prohibition; & for the Navy locating Nazi spies during #WWII. Elizebeth was a federal employee 20 years, but was always temporary.
It's only in the last decade that she is finally getting credit for her work. Her collection is at the #MarshallFoundationLibrary: https://library.marshallfoundation.org/Portal/Default/en-US/Collections/Collection/1

"Tyranny inevitably must retire before the tremendous strength of the gospel of freedom and self-respect for the individual."
George C. Marshall on receiving the Nobel Peace Prize Dec. 11, 1953

In 1942, the troop ship "Queen Mary" was sailing unescorted from Brazil to North Africa. Codebreaker Elizebeth Smith Friedman broke several messages sent by Nazi spies in Brazil to U-boats in the South Atlantic, and the ship, carrying more than 8,000 soldiers and sailors, lived to carry many thousands more troops across the Atlantic.

Hey, look! There's a beautiful yellow Lab #InTheLibrary!
CAVU, such a good boy, is part of the Chaplain's office at VMI and was visiting for a promotion ceremony held in the #MarshallFoundationLibrary.
As far as I'm concerned, CAVU can be my aide-de-camp.
