If the one ring in LOTR makes people disappear when worn then why is Sauron visible at the beginning of the first movie?
It only took me a few years.
Sauron was master of the ring - he created it. It wouldn't have the same kind of power over him that it would for lesser beings.
He also didn't really have a body any more by the time the Battle of the Last Alliance happened.
Like the Nazgul that Merry & Eowyn killed, the shape was primarily retained by force of will.

Maybe it only makes humans disappear, since it is sucking out their essence.
