Grits are a completely underappreciated breakfast food.

@Waldo06 Grew up in the south, but my parents were from New York/Chicago so didn't have grits growing up.

Finally tried them around the age of 17 and have sung their praises ever since.

@Macparrot the first time I had them was when I worked in the kitchen at a nursing home. I thought they were so bland (for the old folks) but the nurses who worked there showed me how to season them and it's been heaven ever since.

@Waldo06 They actually don't need too much. Little salt, little butter, and you're good to go.

I make mine with half milk, half water. Burner BARELY on after the initial boil. Takes a bit longer but SO creamy!

Instant grits however are an abomination that MUST be wiped out!

@Macparrot when I learned the half milk half water it was a game changer. Sometimes I'll add some sage or some cheddar cheese.

And my favorite is to put a fried egg or 2 on top.

@Waldo06 I like to mix in scrambled eggs with mine. Always wanted to try the shrimp and grits thing...but I'm semi-allergic to shellfish. Sucks because Shrimp, crab, lobster, scallops are freaking great
